creating a garden
Creating a garden takes place in stages and over time. From first conceptions and inspiration, through design and build, to planting and maintenance. Our aim is to provide a space that will mature and develop and is built to last. Whether its function is active; full of energy and entertainment, or a more passive place; a sanctuary for relaxation and contemplation. We believe a garden should enhance our living space, channel the architecture of the space we inhabit to connect us with the external, and bring that feeling in; a celebration of the outside.
making things easier
Having a garden can seem like a lot of work, certainly if you let it go unchecked at the wrong time of year, it can run wild before you’ve said Calystegia sepium...
That said, a lot less work is involved in maintaining a properly planned garden, and that doesn’t mean paving yourself into a corner. Planting to your conditions and selecting good groundcover species will minimise the hours needed to control weeds. Mulching also works wonders and conditions the soil too.
Irrigation is also a great thing to consider if you have extended periods where you may not be able to water, especially in the first year after planting or over the summer months in general. There are many things which make life easier and good design takes this into account in planning our outdoor spaces.
cooperation
You may not want us for regular maintenance once your garden is redesigned and we always aim to hand that trowel over with the hope of enthusing and sparking an interest and connection to your plants. We want the garden to be looked after and used, and as part of our ongoing aftercare we are happy to do maintenance with you to pass on knowledge and tips for how to ensure your space goes from strength to strength.

Design
The fees for the design stage can vary depending on the size of the garden and the scope of design to be incorporated. As a guideline for a complete redesign larger gardens generally require more planning. On the other hand for a Planting Plan and some minor works to existing features would be smaller.
Maintenance
Maintenance is charged at our standard hourly rates for one person or for two depending on scope of works - bigger clearance jobs can be quoted on to keep costs down.
Consulting work can be undertaken and prices can be agreed in advance here.
We use a specialist tree surgeon for major tree works and removal and are happy to liaise between them and client to ensure things run smoothly.
Minimum site visit is 2 manhours.
Licensed waste removal is charged at £3/rubble sack, £15/m3 or £105/van load, but clients are free to dispose of waste themselves (especially compostable waste).
Build
Our team all have expertise in different areas and the pricing reflects their relevant experience.
Our quotes are compiled to include a breakdown of material costs and projected labour costs. We stick to our quotes. If work is undertaken on an estimate the price is liable to go up or down depending on time and materials expended. Any significant deviation will be raised and discussed and we will always come to an agreement before billing.
